New EU regulations!

Dec 19, 2024

The European Union has recently been issuing green laws to try to speed up the pace of reducing the greenhouse effect as much as possible. It involves not only the change of dynasties in the automotive industry, but also the refrigeration industry. We all know that some products such as air conditioners, heat pumps, and gas boilers will produce fluorinated gases and hydrofluorocarbons. Although these gases are invisible and intangible, they are very powerful greenhouse gases, accounting for about 2.5% of the EU’s emissions, which seriously affect the climate and environment. Therefore, the EU has tightened its policies in the refrigeration industry, aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and explicitly prohibiting the emission of fluorinated gases. At the same time, it has decided to ban the maintenance and assistance of fluorinated gas air conditioners as early as 2024.

In summer, we sometimes find that the cooling effect of air conditioners has deteriorated. A big possibility is that the freon of the air conditioner has leaked, so someone needs to add it. With this regulation, we will not be able to invite people to add freon, nor can we repair the air conditioner to make it cool. The only way is to scrap the air conditioner.

According to Italian media estimates, 80% of air conditioners in Italy will soon face such a dilemma. People have to turn to air conditioners that use natural refrigerants, which are currently difficult to buy in Italy. On the other hand, in Germany, a subsidy program for the purchase of air conditioners with natural refrigerants has been launched to encourage people across the country to change air conditioners.

Tommaso Foti, team leader of Fratelli d’Italia, spoke out for the war on air conditioners, because such a plan will not hit families the hardest, but those engaged in air conditioning maintenance and repair industries and air conditioner manufacturers will face huge transformation pressure. Because in Italy, there are about 140,000 people engaged in these industries. At the same time, Italy also needs to speed up the time to let industry families understand how new natural refrigerants work, because this is still little known in Italy.
